San Juan County Jail Mugshots

San Juan County jail mugshots and booking records are handled by the San Juan County Sheriff's Office in Friday Harbor. The county does not operate a full jail. This page walks you through how to search San Juan County jail mugshots, how the holding facility works, and which agencies hold the records.

San Juan County Sheriff's Office

The San Juan County Sheriff's Office is led by Sheriff Eric Peter. The physical address is 96 2nd Street, Friday Harbor, WA 98250. Mailing address is P.O. Box 669, Friday Harbor, WA 98250. The Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement across the San Juan Islands. Marine patrol is a big part of the job, since the county is spread across many islands in the Salish Sea. Deputies handle all arrests on the islands and bring people to the Friday Harbor holding facility.

Because San Juan County has no standing jail with long-term housing, the Sheriff's Office relies on partner agencies. Booking data, jail register info, and arrest reports all start here but often end up stored with SCORE, the Washington DOC, or other regional jails.

Arrest records are public under RCW 42.56. You can request reports from the Sheriff's Office by phone or written request. Jail register data is governed by RCW 70.48.100.

San Juan County Holding Facility

The San Juan County Holding Facility is a temporary detention site in Friday Harbor. All persons taken into custody are first held here. In-custody individuals awaiting trial or serving a sentence are then sent to the South Correctional Facility (SCORE) in Des Moines, Washington. SCORE is a regional jail that many smaller Washington counties use for long-term housing.

Visitation at the Friday Harbor holding facility is limited to attorneys only. Other visits are not allowed. This is due to the temporary nature of the facility and the fast turnover. If you are trying to visit an inmate who has been moved, you need to check with SCORE in Des Moines for their visit schedule.

The Sheriff's Office also runs the electronic home detention (EHM) program for post-sentenced convictions only. EHM lets people sentenced to less than 365 days in jail apply for home detention. The program operates seven days a week and is supervised by corrections officers. Applicants fill out a questionnaire, get scored, and if they pass, they can join the program. Probation Office: 350 Court St, Friday Harbor, WA 98250. Phone: 360-378-8208.

SCORE Jail Inmate Lookup

Most people looking for San Juan County jail mugshots need to check the SCORE Jail in Des Moines, Washington. SCORE stands for South Correctional Entity. It is a regional jail that contracts with many smaller counties and cities in Washington. San Juan County ships sentenced and pretrial inmates to SCORE because the local holding facility is not built for long-term stays.

The SCORE jail publishes an online inmate roster. You can search by name to see who is currently in custody. The roster shows booking date, charges, and agency info. For anyone picked up on the islands and held more than a couple of days, SCORE is where you will likely find them.

SCORE also supplies booking photos in certain cases. Rules on release of the mugshots follow RCW 70.48.100 and general public records law under RCW 42.56.

Note: Check SCORE first for long-term San Juan County inmates, because the Friday Harbor holding facility is only a short-term stop.

When a San Juan County inmate moves from jail to state prison, the Washington Department of Corrections takes over. The DOC publishes information about currently incarcerated individuals to improve public safety. The search result displays the inmate's DOC number, full name, age, location held, and a Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification option.

Persons looking for a San Juan County inmate in a Washington State prison can use the inmate search function on the DOC site. You need to provide the inmate's first and last names, or the six-digit DOC identification number. The Washington State Department of Corrections manages all state-operated adult prisons and supervises people in the community who are on supervision.

The DOC system does not show pretrial inmates. For those, go back to the Sheriff's Office or SCORE.

You can get alerts by phone, email, text message, or TTY device. Washington VINELink can be reached toll-free at 1-877-846-3492 or by going to vinelink.com and choosing Washington.

Users register through their state or county toll-free number. The service gives victims timely and reliable custody status updates. It covers SCORE, DOC, and many local Washington jails, including anywhere a San Juan County inmate might be housed.

For full criminal history in Washington, the Washington State Patrol WATCH system is the official statewide source. Name-based searches cost $11.00. Fingerprint checks cost $58.00.

Under RCW 10.97, the Criminal Records Privacy Act, non-conviction data has limits on release. Convictions are public. Dismissed cases may be restricted. Booking photos themselves are treated as non-public records in most Washington counties, per RCW 70.48.100.

Arrests without a warrant fall under RCW 10.31.100, which sets the rules officers must follow. On the islands, these happen often at ferry terminals, on boats, and at short-term rentals.
